tDAR Stage 1 will allow users to register and upload resources (including databases,
text files, and images) and to search tDAR’s archive of information resources.
Users. Anyone may register to use tDAR; only approved users may add information
resources. To register, one must agree to accompany any use of tDAR information
resources with proper citations of the data contributors.
Registering a resource involves uploading the file, and submitting basic metadata including a title, brief description, subject keywords, spatial and temporal coverage, and the information necessary to construct complete citations.

Private and Public. Resources may be registered as public (with open access) or
private (only available to users explicitly permitted access). In addition, individual
fields (e.g., site location) may be flagged as confidential, with additional permission
needed for access.
Supported Formats. Text files in ASCII or PDF are accepted as are JPG and TIFF
images.
Databases are ingested initially as Access®, Excel®, or CSV files. (Access converts several database types into Access databases that can be uploaded). All databases uploaded are converted to a standard relational database format that will be updated and maintained in the long term. Copies of the files, as submitted, are kept; however they are not updated as the software changes.

Searching. In the Stage 1 release, resources may be searched based on their metadata or using their actual content (for databases and text). Following a search to identify relevant resources, a user can download the resources in a convenient format for further analysis.
